Getting Debt Free: April 2013

Getting Debt Free: April 2013

Every time I get to write positive progress on how we are getting debt free, I get way too excited. We’ve seen a lot of awesome progress for only doing this for the past 4 months. April continued this progress and we are happy to say we are now 1 more debt less!

Another big change in April was finally seeing some movement in our credit card utilization. We’ve been paying down as much as we can each month on our cards; however our utilization percentage was not dropping.  Ok, it dropped 1%. It was getting pretty frustrating since every extra penny was going towards paying off our debt.  Finally this month it dropped 11% more giving us a total drop in 12% of our credit card utilization since January 2013.

My credit score has continued to go up. This month it went up a total of three points. That means I am finally up all the points I lost when it dropped all of a sudden. No, I still never figured out why it dropped since the only change had been my last negative account dropping off.

In April, we finally just started to sell things. I’m still rounding up a lot and have so much to do to get everything listed on-line. It’ll be a lot of work, which I know will be worth it in the end. Especially with it paying down our debt quicker. Even without listing anything on-line, I still manged to sell two vintage dresses. I was very happy about that and the extra $100 in brought in that went directly towards paying off debt.

Drew worked more than one weekend in April bringing in more income from side jobs. I was also offered my first freelance position writing for a certain website. It hasn’t brought in any funds in April, however it will start to in May.

All in all, April was a great month. We felt like a lot of progress was made and we are very happy to see our debt continue to go down. As of the end of April 2013, we have 4 debts paid off in full and 14 more to go. We started working towards becoming debt free in January 2013.

  1. Hot stuff guys, it’s great to hear you’re making good progress. I think tracking progress monthly is an excellent way to watch any aim or project progress and when you’re seeing such positive results it’s a real confidence and moral booster. Plus it makes you strive harder during the next 30 days to match last months data!

    All the best for May!
