Getting Debt Free: February 2013

Getting Debt Free: February 2013

Trying to figure out your budget and how much to spend on each debt is very much like putting a puzzle together. There’s a lot of trial, error and moving the pieces around. Eventually, it will all fit together. We are still working on the fitting it all together part.

February was an interesting month for our budget and paying off debt.  My credit score actually ended up dropping, significantly, even though we paid off more debt, there wasn’t anything new on the report and the one change that did happen to it was the one negative mark dropping off. Honestly, I’m still confused on how it dropped so suddenly. Unfortunately, from that drop there was no raise in credit scores.

We did get some debt paid off, but not as much as we would have liked to. This was for two reasons. The first one being that some money we were hoping was going to come in, didn’t. If it had, we would have gotten another debt paid off in full. It didn’t, so that debt will have to wait another month. Hopefully, it will come at a later date.

The second thing was that we  had friends who came into town. Our friends traveled halfway around the world to see us, it wasn’t like we were going to tell them we couldn’t go out or do anything. When we decided to get out of debt, we agreed then that when our friends came to town, we would go out and do whatever they wanted to. Yes, we could have paid off more of our debt, but the time with friends that we don’t get to see very often was worth more to us.

All in all, we are happy with our progress in February. We paid off some more debt and we didn’t take any new debt on. We continue to make progress towards our goal of getting out of debt. Some months will just be smaller steps to that goal than others, but no matter the size of the step, they still matter.

How did you do in getting debt free February 2013?

  1. I love kimmy. that is all.

    • I love you, too, Brea.

  2. I think it’s great that you allow yourself to “go all out” so to speak when good friends come from far to visit! Don’t fret about the decrease in your credit score, you’ll be turning down offers left and right from these credit card companies before you know it! Congratulations on a successful February!

    • Thanks, Nicole! As long as those offers have free miles attached to them. We are trying to get as many as possible, before we leave, for more free flights.

  3. no matter what country you’re in I’ll be stalking you!

    • You better, Lindsay! And we’ll be stalking you when we are in Florida.

  4. Best of luck with clearing your debts.

  5. Thank you! We make progress every day.
