Where Will You Travel To?

Where Will You Travel To?

The first question that almost everyone asks when we tell them we are letting go of the American Dream is, “Where will you travel to?” Easy enough question. However, not an easy answer.

You see, we plan on being on the road for some time. There’s only so far in advance you can plan travel. Plus, you never know what may come up or what may pull you in a different direction.

We may plan to be in Australia for 6 months when we are given the opportunity to stay longer and we extend our time there. We could be on the road towards Italy, when we meet some other travelers on their way to Greece and decide to join them. There are so many variables while traveling the world that it can be difficult to give a solid answer to this question.

For now, we know that our trip will start off with about a 3 month road trip across the United States. There are so many places we’ve never been to before in our own country with so many friends to visit throughout. (If you want us to stop in and visit you along the way, make sure to let us know!) Hopefully, during that road trip, we will be able to get a last minute deal for a cheap cruise through the Caribbean. Our road trip will end back in Portland so we can sell our car there and fly out to the Hawaiian Islands.

We’ve always wanted to spend longer than a couple weeks in the Hawaiian Islands and this will be our chance. Through volunteer opportunities, we will be making our way through the Hawaiian Islands before moving on to other Polynesian Islands and further through the South Pacific. Exactly how long we will stay on each of the islands has yet to be determined.

We have a HUGE list of places we  want to visit while traveling the world. When we get there and how long we stay remains a mystery. The world is our oyster and we plan on taking our time with it.

If you are going to travel the world, where will you travel to?

  1. It really is hard to plan so far in advance, but you have some good structure already figured out. It’ll come together.

I’m jealous you guys are starting with a road trip. We were inspired by Kim (So Many Places) & Brian’s road trip, but since we ended up selling our only car to fund our trip, it was a no go. We will get to drive out to my uncle’s cabin in Idaho for a couple weeks, at least.

    • It’s true, it really is hard to plan out that far in advance. For now we are just concentrating on our Great American Road Trip and time volunteering in Hawaii. Once in Hawaii, we will start figuring out our next steps.

Carmel, not being able to go on a road trip this time, but means you will have to do it in the future!
